Professional Triathlete & Coach
Like most, Alyssa was introduced to athletics through team sports as a kid. Focusing mainly on soccer, she played at the varsity level for all 4 years of high school. Her love for running was also fostered growing up as she would join her dad at the occasional local road race. After two years at the United States Naval Academy, and two more at the University of Virginia, she found her next athletic pursuit: endurance sports! Focusing first on ultramarathons, Alyssa has since completed over 45 marathons and ultramarathons and 30 iron-distance triathlons.
In 2014 Alyssa left her corporate job and moved back to Charlottesville, VA to pursue her passion of racing and coaching triathlon full time. Over the last 4 seasons, Alyssa has had multiple top-10 Ironman and 70.3 finishes, and six top-5 finishes at the Ironman distance. Most notably, she was 2nd at the 2018 Challenge Taiwan, and 4th at the 2016 Ironman Wisconsin. Alyssa has also made a name for herself by racing the 140.6 distance "back-to-back" with the races just one week apart. In 2016 she completed this double with IM UK and IM Switzerland, placing 4th then 8th. Alyssa maintains her love of the trails and found time in 2018 to begin her season with two 40 mile races, just 3 weeks apart! She ran one of the top-ten fastest times at each race: the Uwharrie Mountain 40 Mile, and Mount Mitchell Challenge. Alyssa is keeping the ultra theme for the year as she will run the length of the Vermont Long Trail, attempting to achieve a Fastest Known Time (FKT) for the trail.
